Membership-registration

From 1 June 2026, NTNUI will switch to a new registration solution. Membership in NTNUI will then be registered through Membro and paid directly to NTNUI, instead of the previous solution through Sit. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes, but in order to be registered as a valid member of NTNUI in 2026, you must have purchased membership outside of an independent player such as Sit.

This means that membership in Sit Trening (12 months commitment) no longer entails membership in NTNUI. Students who wish to participate in NTNUI activities must therefore register with NTNUI separately.

We are working on looking at possibilities to get the already paid membership fee of 50kr refunded in 2026 through sit’s systems, so more information about this will come later.

The membership fee in 2026 is 50 NOK per calendar year. The membership fee is assessed each year at NTNUI’s general meeting.

This means that:

  • From 2026, membership in NTNUI must be purchased directly through NTNUI’s own membership portal. This also applies to you who are a Sit member with a 12-month commitment.
  • Invoices or payments to Sit for 2026 are not considered valid NTNUI membership. In order to be registered as a valid member of NTNUI in 2026, membership must be paid through NTNUI’s own portal.
  • Information about invoices that have already been paid to Sit for membership in NTNUI in 2026 of 50kr, including any refund, will be sent to Sit members during August.
  • If you participate in NTNUI activities at Sit’s premises, you must still have both a valid membership with Sit and a valid membership in NTNUI.
  • NTNUI membership costs only 50kr per calendar year. It is 0kr per month, but there is a registration fee of 50kr per calendar year or 5000kr for non-students.
  • Any activity fees for each sports group are paid separately afterwards.

How will the registration be?

Registration and payment will be digital.

NTNUI will use Membro as a temporary solution while work is underway on a separate registration solution directly in NTNUI’s membership system. This will be in place on 1 January 2027.

Once the payment in Membro has been completed, the membership must be activated or registered at: medlem.ntnui.no

  1. If you are already an NTNUI member, you do not need to reactivate your membership after payment. Your membership will be automatically registered in NTNUI’s membership system and in your NTNUI user.
  2. If you are a new member of NTNUI, you must first activate your user in NTNUI’s membership system via the link above. Once the user is activated, you can log in and sign up for the various sports groups. Please note that it may take up to one hour from the time the payment is registered until the user can be activated.
  3. NB: The connection between Membro and NTNUI’s membership system has not yet been completed. If you are new to NTNUI, it will therefore not be possible to activate the user for a few days.

The Trondheim model: NTNUI + Sit = <3

For over 20 years, NTNUI, Sit and NTNU have collaborated on what has often been referred to as the “Trondheim Model” for student sports.

The model is based on a collaboration between student sports in NTNUI, NTNU and Sit, with the goal of offering the most possible activity at the lowest possible cost to students. In this model, Sit has been responsible for operating fitness centers and collecting membership fees, NTNU has contributed with free-time station funds and facilities, while NTNUI has been responsible for organizing the activity offerings and student sports.

The Trondheim Model has been important for the development of student sports in Trondheim and has contributed to the fact that many students have been physically active throughout their studies. This model is now history, but the good collaboration between NTNUI and Sit will continue. The groups in NTNUI will continue to use Sit’s facilities, which still requires membership with Sit Trening.

Therefore, the collaboration is being continued through a new financial collaboration agreement between NTNUI and Sit. The goal is to ensure continued activity in NTNUI and reduce negative consequences of the transition to new membership registration. As part of the agreement, NTNUI will receive activity support/subsidies based on the number of members at Sit Trening with a 12-month commitment.

Why is this changing now?

The background to the change is new requirements from the Norwegian Sports Federation (NIF) for how membership registration in NTNUI should take place.

Since 2017, NTNUI has used a self-developed membership system created by NTNUI Sprint (IT committee). The system was originally developed as a bachelor’s thesis, and has since been further developed with solutions specifically adapted to a multi-sport team like NTNUI.

When NIF began to set stricter requirements for membership registration, uncertainty arose about whether NTNUI’s membership system met the requirements of NIF. Since 2021, NTNUI has therefore been in dialogue with NIF to find solutions that both comply with the regulations and at the same time make it possible to retain its own systems and established work processes.

During the process, NTNUI worked to preserve the Trondheim model and collaborated with Sit Trening. Several exemption applications for use of its own membership system were submitted to NIF, and NTNUI worked for a long time on the possibility of further developing the current solution with the Trondheim model.

In order to meet the requirements of NIF, NTNUI has received approval for an integration agreement between NTNUI’s membership system and NIF’s systems. The integration allows NTNUI to retain its own developed membership system, while at the same time reporting member data to NIF in an approved manner. This is necessary for NTNUI to continue to be an approved sports club in NIF.

However, in January 2026, NIF required that membership in NTNUI must be established independently of Sit Trening if NTNUI was to receive approval for integration with NIF’s systems, as well as continue to be an approved sports club. Membership must be a separate agreement between NTNUI and each individual member.

This means that the old registration solution through Sit can no longer be continued.
