FAQ

Here are the most common questions we receive about NTNUI Håndball. Click on the questions YOU want answers to!

Who can join NTNUI Handball?

Answer: All students at NTNU or individuals who are granted special dispensation. Dispensation is only granted at the highest levels, and even then quite rarely.

How do I join NTNUI Handball?

Answer: You must attend tryouts in August, where you may earn a spot on one of our eleven teams. We also accept players on a rolling basis if there is space, but teams are usually full. Each season, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate everyone, and we recommend those players join our recreational sessions on Wednesdays. Note: It is rarely possible to join a team after the tryout period. Tryouts take place in August at the beginning of the autumn semester, and only then. Read more about tryouts HERE.

Who selects the teams?

Answer: All teams have coaches, and they are responsible for selecting the teams.

How much does it cost to participate?

Answer: You must pay a SiT membership fee, a license fee, a training fee, and travel expenses, as well as participate in volunteer work. Read about player obligations and prices HERE.

What is recreational training (mosjon)?

Answer: We organize recreational sessions at the Gløshaugen Sports Building every Wednesday at 15:00. Anyone with a SiT membership can participate. Read more about recreational training HERE.

Is there volunteer work (dugnad)?

Answer: Yes. All players are required to complete approximately 15 hours of volunteer work during the season. Some roles are exempt, as they contribute to running the club. These include board members, coaches, referees, the events committee, and team managers. Read more about volunteer work HERE.

How is the license paid?

Answer: The handball license is paid through MinIdrett.

Does everyone have to pay the license?

Answer: Yes. Everyone must pay the license, even if they only participate in training (note: this does not apply to recreational sessions).

How often are practices?

Answer: All teams generally have three practices per week, sharing the hall with another team. Some teams choose to have one full-hall practice every other week, which results in alternating weeks with two and three practices.

How often are matches played?

Answer: There is usually one match every weekend or every other weekend. The season starts in mid-September and usually ends before Easter, with no matches in December and early January.

How do I sign up for recreational training?

Answer: HERE

I signed up for tryouts but haven’t received an invitation – why?

Answer: Please be patient. We are not able to invite everyone at once, but we do our best to select relevant players throughout the tryout period. Unfortunately, there will not be space for everyone, as there are always more applicants than available spots.

I missed the tryouts in Augustcan I still join?

Answer: As a general rule, unfortunately no – you will have to wait until next season and attend the tryouts then. The exception is if we have dropouts and available spots, but this is rare

I want to participate in orientation week, but it overlaps with tryouts.

Answer: This applies to many of our players, but if you want to play with us, you need to attend tryouts. It is possible to combine training sessions with orientation week, as you can manage both.
