The cabin group
Hyttegruppa is the crew that runs Hytta through volunteer effort and keeps the traditions alive. We’re responsible for the day-to-day running of the cabin, regular maintenance, and events throughout the year. If you enjoy cozy cabin life, Bymarka, sauna, cold-water tubs and good company, Hytta could be something for you! We meet up for both big and small occasions, both at Hytta and elsewhere.
You’ll quickly get to know every corner of Hytta. There are also plenty of opportunities to take on responsibility if you’d like. For Hyttegruppa members, we hold several internal events throughout the year, such as the Christmas party and the Hytta board’s ski race. There are also a few other perks to being a member, including a discount at the beer hut and free overnight stays. You can also visit Hytta whenever you like, even when it’s not officially open.
Hyttegruppa
All internal members at Hytta are part of Hyttegruppa. The most important quality to have is that you enjoy hanging out at Hytta! We work on all sorts of things, such as various maintenance tasks, PR/promotion, kitchen operations, and organizing both internal and external events. When you apply to Hytta, feel free to mention if there’s something specific you’re interested in working on.
Responsibilities
If you’d like a bit more responsibility for a specific area at Hytta, without being on the board, feel free to mention it in your application. We’re especially looking for a Beer Hut Manager (responsible for the selection and running of the Beer Hut/bar at Hytta) or a PR Manager (coordinating PR/promotion).
To take on a responsibility you should preferably stay in Trondheim at least a year and understand some Norwegian.
Hyttestyret (The Board of Hytta)
Overall responsibility for Hytta. Board members are elected for one year at a time and have specific roles. More info further down. Feel free to mention in the application form if you’d be interested in a role on the board. The board holds elections at the same time as NTNUI’s General Assembly, in September and March.
To be elected for the board you must be able to stay in Trondheim for a year and know Norwegian.
What is Hyttegruppa doing?
Maintenance
Are you a bit handy, or would you like to become one? Do you enjoy fixing and tidying things up so everything looks nice? Then maintenance at Hytta could be something for you. This can involve anything from felling trees on the property, painting the exterior of Hytta, fixing benches and tables that break, sorting out new curtains and sofas when needed, interior details, and much more. There’s also room for your own projects. We have a well-stocked tool shed and a workshop in the garage that you’re welcome to use as much as you like.
Events
A lot happens at Hytta throughout the year. Both small and large, open and closed events. Hytta also has several long-standing traditional events, such as the Christmas party and the Sledding party. There’s often fun and festivities both outdoors and indoors.
PR
PR is about Hytta’s visibility. We regularly update the website and social media with what’s happening. We also design posters and merch, and staff stands to represent Hytta. This is a great place for creativity!
Kitchen
Do you enjoy cooking for a crowd? At Hytta, you get the chance to work on preparing and shaping the cabin’s menu, both for everyday operations and larger events. No prior experience is needed — just an interest in food, the kitchen, and a wish to create great food experiences for Hytta’s volunteers and guests.
Economy
Studenterhytta has extensive and interesting accounts, with a level of complexity comparable to larger businesses. If you’re interested in learning about financial management, bookkeeping and pricing, Studenterhytta is one of the most relevant student roles in Trondheim.
The Finance Group is the treasurer’s right hand. You’ll receive training and areas of responsibility within bookkeeping and invoicing. No prior experience is needed, but it’s preferable if you’d like to contribute to Hytta’s financial work over a period of 1–2 years.
Badstua – The Sauna
Badstugruppa is a long-standing tradition at Hytta, keeping the old sauna culture alive. This includes the noble game of Badstuludo, the sauna race to Blomstertjønna, and knowing the songs in Hytta’s songbook. Badstugruppa also acts as a guardian of the cabin culture as a whole, including tending the fireplace, and writing and reading in Hytta’s guestbooks.
To become a member of Badstugruppa, you must submit an application in the form of a physical gift to the sauna.
