What is Hytta?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located below Gr\u00e5kallen and looking out over Trondheim stands a red-painted building, holding over 100 years of student history within its walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hytta was built as early as 1913, as the students’ “sports cabin,” making it one of the oldest tangible student traditions we have in the city. Since then, it has been part of the development of student life and the student community, has been expanded and upgraded, and remains a gathering place in Bymarka for the city’s students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a student in Trondheim, Hytta has to be experienced. Relaxing by the fireplace or in the sauna together with old and new friends gives tired students new energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is Hytta?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The student cabin is located right in the middle of Bymarka, near Gr\u00e5kallen and Skistua. There are several ways to get to Hytta, whether on foot, by bike, car, bus, or tram:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On foot:<\/strong> You can walk to Hytta both summer and winter. Natural starting points are Lian (tram) or Ferista\/By\u00e5sen shopping centre (bus). From Lian it’s about 4 km along the trail and ski tracks to Hytta, and from Ferista it’s 5-6 km along ski tracks (with floodlit trail) and footpaths. When you reach Fjellsetermyrene, you can spot Hytta from afar, perched on the edge of Lille Gr\u00e5kallen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bike:<\/strong> If you want a bit of a workout or simply enjoy cycling, you can bike up Fjellseterveien to Hytta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bus:<\/strong> Bus no. 18 goes all the way up to Skistua, but make sure you don’t take a departure that only stops at Ferista. From Skistua it’s just a couple of hundred metres east along a gravel road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Car:<\/strong> You can also drive up Fjellseterveien. Parking at Hytta itself is limited, but you can park at the public parking areas at Skistua and at Litj-Gr\u00e5kallen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who can use Hytta?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hytta is open to anyone who is a student or has a connection to Trondheim as a student city, regardless of where you study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hytta also hosts a number of traditional events throughout the year run by NTNUI groups and student associations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What can you do at Hytta?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All year round:<\/strong> Hytta has a sauna and a hot-water tub, as well as fireside lounges where you can play board games, cards, or just relax. You can also stay overnight and enjoy meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summer and autumn:<\/strong> Bymarka offers hiking opportunities in every direction, whether you want to climb Gr\u00e5kallen or Storheia, run or cycle on gravel roads and trails, or cool off in a forest lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winter and spring:<\/strong> Hytta is a great starting point for cross-country skiing in Bymarka’s trail network, and Gr\u00e5kallen offers endless opportunities for backcountry skiing, telemark, and snowboarding enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Join the Hytt<\/strong>egruppa<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you come to love Hytta, you can get involved as a cabin host for a weekend or more, and take on responsibilities or a board position. Since the running of Hytta relies on volunteering and communal effort, there is always a need for students willing to help out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
