Early bird skiing trip

19 november @ 18:00 – 21 november @ 17:00 CET

Hello Hello,
as the first snow covers the Norwegian mountains and the days get colder and shorter, the skier’s hearts start to beat faster. We, therefore, thought to try our luck the weekend of the 20.11. – 21.11. in Trollheimen and hope to draw the first lines into the white gold (not cocaine). To warm up our cold bones after a long and joyful day we booked a cozy cabin in Oppdal, where will stay for a night to dine like Viking queens and kings.

As the snow conditions can be a bit disappointing this time of the year we also thought about a plan B:

Plan A:

Best case scenario, we go ski touring! We planned two quite easy and safe trips, to get comfortable on skis again. On Saturday morning we will go up Storbekkhøa (900 vertical meters, 7 km distance) and on Sunday on the way back to Trondheim up on Storhornet (900 vertical meters, 6 km distance). Both are short enough that we can do them during the daylight and also have not that many big stones hiding under the snow.

Plan B:

Something on foot or cross-country skis (with bonfire) around that area. We didn’t think about what exactly yet. But it will have a lot of snow anyway… if we make enough sacrifices to the snow gods.

If you got a spot we have the mandatory trip meeting on 17.11. at kl. 18 in Gløshaugen. The exact place will be announced to the lucky winners.

So in short:

What: Skitouring or cross-country skiing/hiking

Where: Storbekkhøa (Storlidalen), Storhornet (Oppdal), cosy cabin (Oppdal)

Start: 20.11. at kl. 7:30 in front of the main building at Gløshaugen

End: 21.11. at kl. 18:00 in Trondheim

Cost: approx. 600 NOK

Difficulty level: relatively easy – you should have done some ski touring before

Risks: Depending on the snow conditions there could be a risk of avalanches

To bring:

  • Ski touring equipment (shoes, skis, poles, skins, helmet)
  • Avalanche equipment (can be rented here: https://ntnui.no/skiogfjellsport/product/avalanche-package/)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Warm winter clothes (can get quite cold (-25 degrees) in Storlidalen
  • Warm indoor clothes
  • Breakfast, lunch, and snacks (dinner is included)
  • Headlamp
  • Hiking shoes (just in case)
  • Fun games and drinks
  • Cake for the trip coordinators
  • Rumors are there will be a warm shower… maybe…
